I don’t know how many times as a dental assistant I have heard patients say “my teeth are so bad—just pull them all out”. Some people might think that is the easier answer than getting care completed, but denture wearers and their dentists will tell you that they suffer from their own set of problems.
In a study of their denture wearing patients 1627 dentists report on what problems arose the most. The results may interest you.
85% of denture wearers say that their biggest concern is loose or ill fitting dentures. This can range from worry about teeth falling out in public, to just not being able to eat what they want, to painful sores in their mouths. The 49% of those wearing loose fitting dentures complain of having to wear too much adhesive, that yucky pink goopy material doesn’t taste good you know.
52% say the problem is difficulty swallowing or speaking, if you have teeth flopping around in your mouth it’s hard to speak correctly. Imagine trying to hold flip flops on with your toes while running through sand—that’s the best visual I can give you.
51% of dentists say that the primary cause of tooth loss is neglecting oral hygiene and 37% say that periodontal disease (gum disease) is the primary cause. Gum disease causes the gum to strip away from the tooth, and the bone to dissolve leaving your teeth trying to hold on like a flagpole stuck into an empty five gallon bucket.
Of course mini dental implants can help with several of these problems. The loose dentures, the problems with speaking, the adhesive, all of these problems could be easily fixed with mini dental implants.
As a dental assistant I have seen this happen with many patients. The changes I have seen after patients get their dental implants done are amazing. I have seen patients who previously had to eat only soft foods due to fear of losing their teeth in public are able to munch on a handful of pinion nuts, and eat corn on the cob, devour a steak, and bite into apples again.
I have seen patients who only smiled with their mouths closed to avoid embarrassing mishaps become beaming, confident, smiling rays of sunshine.
Patients who used to only taste the adhesive when they ate dinner, after the implants can now taste their spouses divine cooking-I have even seen a few of them gain a couple of pounds because they were so excited to be able to taste their food again.
Dental implants can really make a difference for many people, so if you already have dentures and have difficulty speaking, keeping them in, and are tired of glue to hold your teeth in then mini dental implants are for you, if you don’t have dentures, and are worried that “your teeth are so bad and need to be pulled out” please come to the office and let us give you some different options.
